GOUT

While gout is caused by a systemic illness, it often presents in the big toe joint and other joints in the body with redness, swelling, and pain. We recommend a multi-specialty treatment for gout, even if it presents for the first time in the foot. After initial treatment with your podiatrist, Primary care is recommended for medication reconciliation and blood work review, endocrinology is recommended for close monitoring of gout medications and a nutritionist can help alter your diet to prevent future gout flare ups.

In our office, we treat acute gout with anti-inflammatory medications or injections, immobilization, and gout medication. We recommend bloodwork and endocrinology referral to confirm and treat your diagnosis.
